2023 Brisbane Broncos Indigenous Jersey (L)
From their 2023 Indigenous round game against the Penrith Panthers, comes this exciting and colourful broncos Indigenous strip.
Indigenous artist Casey Coolwell-Fisher, a proud Quandamooka and Nunukul woman, designed the 2023 jersey after also designing the hugely successful 2022 Indigenous Jersey.
The jersey is inspired by the Broncos growing group of young leaders and represents four key themes that both embody not only what it means to be a Bronco, but also the wider Brisbane and Indigenous communities.
“Sacrifice, empowerment, courage and strength are shown in the four boomerangs, two on the front and two on the back,” she said.
“Our leaders are carried through the ‘U’ shaped elements. “The ‘U’ shape represents the players, the young leaders coming through – it’s on the chest to represent pride and accepting their position in the community.
“Underneath the ‘U’ shape elements is the community links patterns. Sharing knowledge and coming together and the ancestors on the outside, leading the way and guiding us through our life and sharing the knowledge through the dot work.
“They are positioned under the young leaders on the jersey, encouraging the young leaders and pushing them up and giving them strength.”
Coolwell-Fisher worked closely with Brisbane’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players Ezra Mam, Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo, Reece Walsh and Jordan Riki in the design, taking inspiration from their stories and continuing journeys.
Made by Asics, this jersey is marked as an XL but measures 57cm across the chest (pit to pit), making it more like a L.
